Mangalorean’s it’s time for some action!!! Yes, you heard it right. Under the aegis of Self Defence School of Indian Karate Mangaluru dojo. Two days of Indian Karate Championship 2017, National level open karate tournament will be held at Nehru Maidan from November 4 to 5. The tournament was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at 9:30. Mangalore Mayor Kavitha Sanil who herself is a karate Champion and Sadananda Shetty, founder president of Self Defence School of Indian Karate also participated in the program
Kata and Kumite competitions will be held for boys and girls for the age category of 8-10 years, colour belts above 10 years and for those who are in the black belt and above. There are 11 and 12 weight categories for women and men contestants respectively in colour belt category. In black belt categories, contestants will vie for top honors in 8 weight categories for women and 10 weight categories for men contestants. There will be a team and individual kata and Kumite competitions. The Mayor Kavitha Sanil will participate in the above 65-kg class.The event will be held in four fighting areas with one International standard centre bout/ring for the grand championship for men and women. Winners will receive attractive trophies and prizes including customized medals and certificates. There will be LED boards around the championship arena and above the centre ring with electronic score display. The event will be telecast live in local and other channels. More than 2500 participants from 12 different states will take part in the event from Individual & Group Event in regulation as per International Standards.The weighing-in and registration for outstation teams were held on November 3. The Organisers have opened up registration online and one can do so at www.ikcm2017.com.
