Indian Supersonic Fighter Aircraft To Be Equipped With World’s Fastest Cruise Missile!!!

The ‘BrahMos’ is the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the World. It is a joint venture between the Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroeyenia and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The name BrahMos is formed from the names of two rivers, the ‘Brahmaputra’ of India and the ‘Moskva’ of Russia. The missile has a range of 300 km and carries a warhead weighing from 200 to 300 kg.After the successful launch of the supersonic Brahmos cruise missile from the Sukhoi-30, ensuring a tactical advantage for the armed forces, work on ‘BrahMos Light,’ a lighter version of the missile that can be fired from the Tejas, the indigenously made Light Combat Aircraft that the Indian Air Force is acquiring, has begun. The speed of the missile makes interception difficult. As Tejas is a lighter aircraft compared to Sukhoi 30, a lighter missile becomes necessary.
A senior defence official said, “It is currently in the design stage, though initial consultations have been held”. The new version will have a smaller engine and the missile’s range will be about the same. The warhead will be the same but the weight will be considerably less. The missile is likely to be ready by 2019.
